Details About Our Hospice Services
Hospice care is a compassionate and suitable choice when a person and family are working with life-limiting conditions and illnesses and no longer have the desire to use aggressive and debilitating medicinal treatments. Todd Cardin Home Health Care takes advantage of an interdisciplinary team in order to provide a full range of thorough services to our clients and their families. We do everything possible to meet all of our clients’ needs in order to enable them to live the fullest life possible and to help family members adjust after the loss of their loved one.
A client and family members should consider looking into hospice care when diagnosed with a terminal illness, when certified by a doctor as only having six months or less to live, no longer want any aggressive medicinal treatment, and agree that the best choice would be for comfort support and palliative care. Every client will be assessed for any spiritual, physical, and psychosocial needs that need to be addressed. This also includes pain management. Todd Cardin Hospice division will make sure that all clients are as pain free as possible.
The hospice supportive care that we provide includes a wide range of disciplines and support staff:
- Nurses are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year in order to assess a client’s current condition as well as to provide any necessary pain managements.
- Social workers specifically trained for this field are available for family and client counseling. They also act as the middle man between any community agencies and the patient. The social workers will be able to help locate assistance for any financial or legal issues that may arise.
- A wide range of therapists are available for speech, physical, and occupational needs.
- Chaplains and priests are available to meet any and all spiritual needs.
- Home health aides and companions are available for social needs, light housekeeping, hygiene assistance, and meal preparations.
- Volunteers are available year round for emotional support, companionship, and transportation.
We also offer counseling and support for the family members up to a year after the loss of the client.
There are benefits and additional services provided with hospice care. Clients can receive physician support, there is 24 hour assistance available, bereavement support, all medical supplies, equipment, and medications will be available, and the services are covered by Medicaid, Medicare, and many third part companies. Todd Cardin Hospice has four levels of care:
- Routine at Home care is when hospice staff visits and treats patients in their own environment whether it is their home or living facility.
- Continuous care is available for people normally on the routine level of care at home. It is provided during an acute crisis that requires 24 hour support. The continuous care is usually only maintained for a few days until the crisis has been stabilized. Nursing care can be given in order to help manage any medical symptoms.
- Respite care is a short term service that is designed for hospice staff to come in and relieve family members or caregivers for a period of time. It is normally less than a week long because only so much time of respite care is covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
- General inpatient care is available to help with symptom management and pain control. This is a short term service that normally lasts no longer than week. Once a patient has stabilized for a period of 24 hours, the patient will be released back to their place of residence.
